Comment
A man (Joel McCrea) arrives in an Alaskan town and is given the opportunity of turning his life around by starting a salmon canning company with the support of a woman (Evelyn Brent) with a chequered past. Things get further complicated as he is in love with the daughter (Jean Arthur) of the man who the other woman persuaded to fund him and his main business rival is also in love with her. THis film is an early sound film and includes several intertitles and the scene in the cannery is now an interesting historical curiosity. There is a good performance from Evelyn Brent as the woman whose motives are never very clear and from Jean Arthur as the wealthy society blonde. There is also a rare talking role for Blanche Sweet.
