A couple rescue some men from a car accident and take them to their house only to discover they are escaped prisoners who then hold them hostage. The accident involved another car and two children from it are brought to the house and one of them develops meningitis. This adds to the tension between the escaped prisoners and the hostages. Whilst this is slow and wordy in places, it is a good British hostage drama. This was Howard Keel's first film role and he is suitably menacing as the leader of the prisoners. There is an underlying tension that build gradually helped by the confines of the house everyone is contained in. Valerie Hobson gives good support as the wife. At the time she was married to the film's producer Anthony Havelock-Allan.
