The original Grimm Brothers stories were dark and it was Disney that introduced the more twee and jolly versions of the stories. This film returns to the more darker origins of the story with Sigourney Weaver menacing as the step mother, Sam Neill as the king and Monica Keena as the innocent Snow White.
