Comment/Synopsis
A woman (Miriam Hopkins) who is the ganddaughter of a judge (Sir Guy Standing) has a slightly wild life and several male admirers. Out with one of her boyfriends, they have a car crash and she is rescued by crimial (Jack La Rue), who kills a man that she witnessess, then rapes her. Her rebellious side kicks in and she chooses to stay with him. Meanwhile one of her admirers is a lawyer (William Gargan) defending the man wrongly accused of the murder and discovers that she is with him. The film starts showing a typical 1930's wild socialte, but then takes a darker turn as murder, rape and abuse take over. There is a very good performance from Miriam Hopkins as the rich socialite with a darker side. This is a well produced and written film that explores a variety of themes that soon became banned under the Hayes Code.
