Reese Witherspoon is a fashion designer in New York who has a marriage proposal from Patrick Dempseu who is the son of the mayor. However she must first get a divorce from her first husband (Josh Lucas). She goes back home to Alabama to get him to sign the divorce papers. This is variation of the plot of big city girl going back to her small town roots and re-finding the love of her life. This is a standard romantic comedy that is carried by Reese Witherspoon's charm and talents.
