A woman (Susan Strasberg) confined to a wheel chair returns to her father's house in the south of France after 10 years, but he is not there and she meets her step mother (Ann Todd) for the first time and a hansom chauffeur (Ronald Lewis). When she starts seeing the body of her father the chauffeur helps her but not everybody is quite who they seem nor are their motives honest and who is the doctor (Christopher Lee). This film has a great script that builds the suspense and then in the final quarter it has lots of twists and turns. This is a surprisingly good film for a Hammer film and with a different performance from Christopher Lee as a French doctor. The script is better than the acting, but still well worth watching.
