A down on his luck construction worker finds a pair of sun glasses that reveal the world as it really is including aliens hiding as people and hidden subliminal messages. This is John Carpenter's expose of greed and consumerism as people are happy to work with the aliens for the promise of their own personal wealth but at the expense of the rest of humanity. The morality of the story is probably still as relevant today and the long fight scenen in an alley in the middle of the film is a key turning point in the film. Unusually the main character (Roddy Piper) was actually a professional wrestler rather than an actor.
