A man (Lon Chaney) on the run with two thumbs on one hand pretends to have no arms and hides out in a circus with a knife throwing act with his feet. He falls in love with a woman (Joan Crawford) in the circus who has a fear of arms, so he ends up having his arm surgically removed only to find his rival (Norman Kerry) for the love of the woman has cured her of her fear of arms. This is another exploitation film from Tod Browning and has some psychological horror elements. THis was one of the last major silent films as it was relaesed just months before the first sound film.
