A group of strangers think they have been told the location of a long lost wagon load of gold so they go out into the desert to find it. Hidden agenda's and tensions plus the lust for gold leads to fights and deaths in the group. The film is a mix of themes, with western, gold fever and bit of film noir with Ella Raines as the woman in the middle of a love triangle. The mix of ideas ends up detracting from the film rather than enhancing it. This was John Sturges's first western.
