One night 17 children all from the same class disappear but one child remains. The class teacher becomes the person the town suspects knows something about what happened when the police find nothing. The story unfolds by being told from the perspective of different people involved, with parts overlapped and then extending the story. This allows the introduction of various different types of characters as the supernatural element of the story is introduced and developed. Some of the scenes and shot from slightly different angles giving some good effects but some of the dialogue is quite stilted. Amy Madigan only appears half way through the film but her performance won her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
