Al Jolson was a popular singer, actor and entertainer in the early 1900's, though today he is remembered for appearing in the first talking picture (Jazz Singer) and for blacking up and singing jazz and blues style music. He was born in what was then Russia and his family moved to America when he was very young. His third wife was Ruby Keeler.
