Comment/Synopsis

This film is based on a play that tells the story of the love between Elizabeth Browning (Norma Shearer) and Robert Browning (Fredric March) despite the cruel and overbearing presence of of her father (Charles Laughton) preventing her or any of her siblings from marrying. There is a very good performance from Norma Shearer for which she recieved an Oscar nomination. There are also good performances from Fredic March and Charles Laughton in the other main roles and also good supporting performances from Maureen O'Sullivan and Katharine Alexander as her sisters and Una O'Connor as the maid.
