In a post-apocalyptic world the two remaining power blocks compete to be the first to land a space ship on Mars. This film started life as an impressive Russian sci-fi film (Nebo zovyot) with some good sets and visuals. This version was heavily cut, re-edited, dubbed and additional scenes added by Roger Corman and Francis Ford Coppola. Watching the film, you are left with the impression that the original film was better than the American version. The American edit has all the Russian propaganda edited out of the film.
