A man desperate to win the best decorated house in the street competition does a pact with an elf but there are consequences to his pact. He is given an ornament that releases the 12 days of Christmas, but the elf has an alternative motive and if he does not collect all the gold rings he and his family will be turned into miniature people. Eddie Murphy is Eddie Murphy and brings plenty of energy to the role though the best performance is from Jillian Bell as the manipulative elf. The main problem with the film is that there are various plot lines that seem unconnected and whilst some of the effects are fine, some of the acting is not the best. It is one of those films that probably should have been better than it is.
