A woman (Joan Crawford) is having an affair with a married man (Otto Kruger) whose wife will not divorce him so she goes off on a cruise and falls in love with another man (Clark Gable). When she returns Otto Kruger is now divorced from his wife and so she agrees to marry him despite really being in love with Clark Gable. The plot is very straightforward, but the charm of the film is in the performances and the interplay between Joan Crawford and Clark Gable who are both at their sparkling best.
