This is an intriguing variation of a restoration comedy in which Anthony Higgins is an artist who is commissioned to paint 12 views of Janet Suzman's husband's house and estate. He is paid for this by favours from the mistress of the house and then from her daughter. The master of the house disappears and is found murdered, but suspicion falls upon the artist as the murderer and also for his affairs with the mistress and her married daughter.
