A butler (Ralph Richardson) and his dominating wife (Sonia Dresdel) take responsibility for a young boy (Bobby Henrey) who is the son of an ambassador who lives in an embassy in London. When his wife dies in an accident he is suspected of murder as he was having an affair with another woman (Michele Morgan). This is a good adaptation of the Graham Greene story that is filmed by Carol Reed from the perspective of the child, with low angle camera shots. It is considered one of the best films about childhood lost innocence.
