After selling out the people who sent him to jail, a man (James Cagney) hides out in a small fishing village with a woman (Joan Blondell) he met by chance, but there are hit men after him. Joan Blondell is engaged to a fishman (Victory Jory), but gradually a relationship develops between her and James Cagney. However she is unaware of his background. There is relatively little to the plot which leaves James Cagney and Joan Blondell with not a lot of material to work with. Without the influence of the Hayes code the relationship between the two of them would probably have more explicit.
