A south sea islander and sailor (Jon Hall) gets into a fight and is imprisoned by a vindictive local colonial governor. He tries to escape to get back to his wife (Dorothy Lamour) whilst the powers that be try to stop him. The film contrasts passion with revenge and commitment to the law at all costs. Dorothy Lamour is the wife waiting for her husband and Mary Astor trying to bring compassion to her cruel husband. The final hurricane sequence is impressive given this was made before the days of CGI.
