In the 1950's a naive upper class man (Ian Carmichael) wants to get a job in industry but gets caught up in a plan by the management to get the workers to go on strike to get a contract awarded to another company they own for more money. This film reflects the clash between the workers and the management in British industry at the time. There is a good cast of British comic actors with the best performance from Peter Sellers as the shop steward and typically good supporting performances from Margaret Rutherford, Liz Fraser and Irene Handl.
