A mild blacksmith becomes a gladiator and someone only seeking wealth for himself and his adopted son after his wife dies. He is happy to capture slves and sent then death in the games whilst his son becomes a pcifist and being saved from death by Jesus. This was a big RKO production, particularly the final sequence as Versuvius explodes. The best acting performance is from Basil Rathbone as Pontius Pilate.
