Comment/Synopsis

A man just out of prison returns to his family who reject him and he ends up staying in the house of a woman as the bailiff’s representative only to discover that she is engaged to his brother. Both the woman and the brother are only marrying each other because they each think the other is rich without realising they are both broke. The film was remake as Personal Property with Jean Harlow and Robert Taylor. This Irene Purcell version was made pre-code and is more entertaining and has more sexual undertones. There is an entertaining performance from Charlotte Greenwood as the maid.
