Comment/Synopsis

A man just out of prison returns to his family who reject him and he ends up staying in the house of an American woman as the bailiff’s representative only to discover that she is engaged to his brother. Both the woman and the brother are only marrying each other because they each think the other is rich without realising they are both broke. Robert Taylor pretends to be Jean Harlow's butler and they inevitable fall in love with each other. This version was made during the influence of the Hays Code and so the sexuality more obvious in the earlier version (The Man In Possession 1931) is missing. This does limit what Jean Harlow can do with her character. This is an entertaining comedy despite the inconsistencies between the British and American in the accents.
