Harrison Ford is an inventor who moves his wife (Helen Mirren) and four children (including RIver Phoenix) to the central American jungle and builds a giant ice making machine. As an idealist he wants to build a new society that is the opposite to the decadent American way of life. The world does however intrude into his idealism and his obsessions start to push him over the edge. Harrison Ford and his character over dominate the film and Helen Mirren's talents are underused. This was not one of Harrison Ford's blockbuster films of the 1980's, despite some good direction from Peter Weir. The film is based on the novel by Paul Theroux.
