A popular singer and dancer is loved by her long time agent but romanced by a wealthy playboy who she marries, but the marriage ends in tragedy. The film is based on the ill-fated life of Libby Holman and was not a commercial success. Jean Harlow's singing voice was dubbed by Virginia Verill. Victor Fleming went on to direct much better and more successful films. This was not the best film of either Jean Harlow or William Powell. Jean Harlow was initially reluctant to make the film as her second husband had committed suicide two years earlier, in a manner similar to that of the man she marries in the film. There is a small early performance from Rosalind Russell.
