When their father dies the Dashwood girls have to build a new life dependent on their relatives and looking for suitable men to marry. Director Ang Lee has produced a well made version of the Jane Austen novel that benefits from a strong cast. There are very good performances from Emma Thompson who was Oscar nominated, and Kate Winslet and over the top from Elizabeth Spriggs. This was Ang Lee's fist full English language film and made a faithful adaptation of the Jane Austen novel and included the humour, giving the film a lighter feel than other adaptations.
