A newly appointed vicar is trying to deal with some rebellious youths in the town and when he challenges one about getting a girl pregnant and her then committing suicide, the boy accusses him of molesting him. The only wintness is the daughter of the previous vicar who has been rejected by him and so gets revenge by lying and supporting the boy's story, with drastric consequences for the vicar. This is a gritty British drama that deal with revenge, unwanted pregnancy, suicide and false allegations of sexual abuse. It deals head on with a variety of difficult social issues with many that are equally challenging today as they were 60 years ago. Anthony Quayle give s a good performance as the vicar being wrongly persecuted for trying to do the right thing. There is a cameo of Cliff Richard singing Living Doll.
