A former detective (William Powell) and his wife (Myrna Loy) are asked by a woman (Maureen O'Sullivan) to find her father who is accused of murdering his secretary and former lover (Natalie Moorhead). However more bodies are found before they reveal the murderer. This is a murder mystery where all the suspects are gaahtered togther at the end for the big reveal. The best parts of the film are the scenes between William Powell and Myrna Loy as husband wife which are comic as much for their acting as for the witty dialogue. There is plenty of good support from a range of dysfunctional characters. The story is adapted from a novel by Dashiell Hammett and had three Oscar nominations.
