Morgan Freeman is one the great actor of the 1990's and 2000's and stared in Shawshank Redemption which is regarded by many as one of the great. In addition to this he has given many good performances. His trade mark is is his deep, resonant and melodious voice that is distinctive and yet powerful and emotional in different characters. He was brought up in a segregated school in the south of America. After a period in the air force he worked in theatre in Los Angeles and then New York. He then spent 7 years appearing in the children's televiison series The Electric Company. Through the early 1980's he continued to work on television and with various small parts in films. His first major film role was in Street Smart for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 50 and was his breakout role. GLory was about a black regiment during the American Civil War. Driving Miss Daisy is essentialy a two hander for which he was again Oscar nominated. With Unforgiven he made a western with Clint Eastwood. The Shawshank Redemption is the film that is he best remembered for and for which he was again Oscar nominated. Sev7en was a dark thriller about a serial killer. With Bruce Almighty he plays God in the Jim Carey comedy. For Million Dollar Baby he reunited with Clint Eastwood and he won the Best Supporting Actor for his performance. He had another Oscar nomination for INvictus where he plyed Nelson Madela in the run up to the rugy word cup. Over his career he has palyed a hugh range of charcters and done so convincingly.
