Career / Biography

Jeremy Irons is a British actor whose most notable performances were in the French Lieutenants Woman and The Mission. His first significant role was in the television adaptation of Brideshead Revisted which was followed by his first major film role in The French Lieutenant's Woman opposite Meryl Streep. This was a big commercial success. THis was followed by the very different but also successful film The Mission. Dead Ringers is a David Cronenberg film where he plays a pair of identical twins that swap places as doctors and lovers. He won his Best Actor Oscar for Reversal Of Fortune as the man charged with attempted murder of his wife. In Die Hard: With A Vengeance, the third Die Hard film, he plays the villan. He returned to historical adventure with The Man In The Iron Mask. He turned to Shalespeare with an adaptation of the Merchant Of Venice and gives a good performance as Antonio. Kingdom of Heaven was another historical drama set during the crusades from director Ridley Scott. Inland Empire is a surreal film about making a film from director David Lynch. With Appaloosa he moved into the western genre and is the main villan in the film. Margin Call is an examination of the financial crash of 2008. Most of his more recent films have benn either supporting roles or less successful.
