Samuel L Jackson is a versatile and popular actor, particularly with his films from the 1990's including Pulp Fiction and several of the Star Wars films. His early acting career was on the New York stage. His first notable film roles were a small parts in Coming To America and School Daze, his first film with director Spike Lee. In Jungle Fever he plays a drug addict that reflected his earlier life in New York. In Jurassic Park he was a small but crucial role in the plot as the computer engineer. It was his role in Pulp Fiction that brought him to the wider film going audience and probably his best known role. He then stared in the third of the Die Hard films with Bruce Willis. In A Time TO Kill he plays a vigilante who killed the man who raped his daughter and based on John Grisham's novel. The Long Kiss Goodnight was a return to the action thriller along with Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown. Sphere and Deep Blue Sea were both disappointing science fiction films. He also appeared in Star Wars Episodes 1 and 2. Shaft was a new version of the 1970's film. Unbreakable is a curious science fiction film from director M Night Shyamalan. 51st State is an action thriller with black humour and then he provided a voice for the animation The Incredibles. Black Snake Moan was a more dramatic inter-racial role. Django Unchained was another Quentin Tarantino film where he plays an unpleasant African-American slave. It was his most controversial role. The Hateful Eight is Tarantino's take on the spaghetti western.
