Bill Murray is a good comic known for his comedy roles with a deadpan expression. Although his biggest commercial succsess in this style was in Ghostbusters, his best performance was in Goundhog Day. His Oscar nomination came for a more serious role in Lost In Translation. His early work was in improvision and he moved to New York and appeared on Saturday Night Live. His first main film role was Meatballs. Caddyshack was a madcap comedy with Bill Muray as the central character which he improvised much of his scenes and character. It was a major box office success. Tootsie is a Dustin Hoffman film and Bill Murray has a smaller role and one where he stays more to the script and is more acting. Gostbusters was a huge big budget success. It is a comedy but he bring a dry sardonic humour to the film. He then took a break from acting for a few years except for a cameo in Little Shop Of Horrors. He returned in the Christmas film Scrooged. In What About Bob? he worked with Richard Dreyfus and they had very different syles of acting which in some ways helped with their clash of characters. Groundhog Day became his signature role and a greta film and one of his best performances. It has become a popular classic film. Rushmore was a film from director Wes Anderson and The Royal Tenebaums was a second film with this director. Lost In Translation was written for him by director Sophia Coppola in her break out film. This is a romance rather than he usual comedy. He has a small part in Zombieland where he plays himself. Moonrise Kingdom was another Wes Anderson film. His legacy is a series of very funny films that show off his unique style and talent.
