Slim Pickens spent 20 years as a rodeo rider before turning to acting in films and television. His horse riding skills meant he appeared in many western and cowbiy films doing his own horse riding and stunts. A number of these roles were as the sidekick to the leadiing actor. One of his best known roles was as the B52 pilot in Dr Stangelove where he rides the dropped H-bomb.
