The Italian born actress Gina Lollobrigida appeared in films in the 1950's and 1960's before moving on to other interests.She made her name as beautiful and charismatic actress with an Italian style. After appearing in a beauty pagent she came to the notice of Howard Hughes who signed her up for a contract but this did not go well and she returned to Europe. Her first major English language film was Beat The Devil thatnhad reflection back to Casablanca. This was followed by Bread, Love and Dreams. Her Hollywood debut was in Trapeze showing her acting and not just her beauty and lifted her to star status. She returned to Europe for the French version of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame and the first version in colour. The role is is most well known for is as the Queen of Sheba in Solomon And Sheba. Never The Few was a box office success and helped her reputation in America. Come September was an American light romantic comedy with Rock Hudson and she appeared again with him in Starange Bedfellows. Hotel Paradiso was not the best of her films. Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell was a romantic comedy that also became the plot to Mamma Mia. By the 1970's her film roles were less but she developed her carer as a photo journalist. In the 1980's she worked on television including Falcon Crest.
