Susan Sarandon gained cult status in the film Rocky Horror Picture Show and had mainstream success with Thelma And Louise. She has subsequently featured in films with strong female roles and has shown her ability and versatility as an actresss in the variety of characters she has played. Previously long time partner of Tim Robbins. She has also appeared on television (Feud). After studying drama at university her first film was Joe. Her first major role was in Billy Wilder's The Front Page. THe ROcky Horror Picture Show is an outrageous film that has become a cult classic. Pretty Baby was one of a number of controversial films that she appeared in. Her first Best Actress Oscar nomination was for Atlantic City and this made her a major star. The Withces of Eastwick was a comic farce. Bull Durham is less a sports films and about a sexually almost predatory woman. Her next major film was Ridley Scott's Thelma And Louise and demonstrated her strength as an actor and helped change the way women were portrayed in films. She was Oscar nominated for this as well as for the emotionally charged Lorenzo's Oil. Another Oscar nomination came for the legal thriller The Client, but she finally won an Oscar for Dead Man Walking where she plays a nun working with a prisoner on death row.
