Julia Roberts has starred in drama and comedy films, she is best known for romantic films, starting with Pretty Woman for which she was nominated for an Oscar. SHe was the biggest and highest paid female actress of the 1990's. Her first film roles was in Satisfaction. THis was followe by Mystic Pizza which was her first major role. Even this early stage of her career she had a real screen presence and a winning smile. In Steel Magnolias she had a more dramatic role and for which she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. She was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Pretty Woman which was a major box office success and took her up to being a major star. Sleeping with the enemy was a darker thriller. As Tinker Bell in Hook she had a adifficult shoot linked to filming mainly on her own against a green screen and problems in her personal life. After a 2 year break she came back with the politcal thriller The Pelican Brief. My Best Friends Wedding is a return back to romantic comedy where the audience is rooting for her even though she is quite unpleasant to Cameron Diaz. Notting Hill became one of the biggest British films as two differnt world meet and her career adversely affects his life. Eric Brockovich was a leagl thriller that reset Julia Roberts career in a dramatic role that won her the Best Actress Oscar. The role was much less glamourous than most of her films. THrough the early 2000's she continued to appear in a mix of dramatic roles and romantic roles. SHe received another Oscar nomination for her role in AUgust: Osage County where she is a gain a more dowdy rather than glamourour characters. Wonder gave her a differnt role as the mother of a child with facial disfigurement. Ticket to Paradise was a return to romance reuniting with George Clooney. She is the sister of Eric Roberts.
